Associate Credentials
  • A technical background in one of the following areas: computer science, engineering, biotechnology, and/or chemistry:
    • For biotech and chemistry candidates, an advanced degree is highly preferred
    • For CS and engineering candidates, experience in the field of AI/machine learning is preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in the area of intellectual property/patent law
  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois (or licensed to practice in another state and qualified to sit for the Illinois bar exam)
  • Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Innovative thinking and creative problem-solving skills

Summer Associate

About MBHB
As a summer associate at MBHB, you will spend 10 weeks learning about the practice of law. MBHB's summer program encourages hands-on participation in client work, managed by partner-mentors throughout the program. A summer associate might work on a patent application, assist in drafting a freedom-to-operate opinion, attend a client presentation, complete legal research for a pleading, or write a blog post or snippets article over the course of their summer. Not only will you earn invaluable experience during your summer, but you'll also have the opportunity to get to know your colleagues at social events.

Technical Advisor/Patent Agent (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering)

As a Technical Advisor or Patent Agent at MBHB, you will work with our attorneys to take on complex challenges, develop patent strategies for clients, conduct prior art searches, prepare and file patent applications, and support the preparation of legal opinions, while leveraging your expertise to shape our law practice.
 
Technical Advisor/Patent Agent Credentials
  • BS, MS, Ph.D., or equivalent in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline
  • Experience and expertise in artificial intelligence, including AI-based software tools such as neural networks, natural language processing, or machine learning, and/or AI-related applications such as robotics or autonomous vehicles
  • No legal training or experience is necessary
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Innovative thinking and creative problem-solving skills
MBHB's Law Clerk Program
As a technical advisor or patent agent at MBHB, you also have the opportunity to apply to our Law Clerk Program, should you choose to pursue the path of attending law school and becoming an IP attorney. With tuition reimbursement and a reduced hours requirement, our law clerks can attend classes while continuing to gain experience in the field of IP law.
